In April 2016 Dr. Simmons received the GPLI Contact Lens Clinical Excellence Award as well as the James and Patricia Short Fellowship award.

In June 2017 Dr. Simmons was selected as the Utah Young Optometrist of the Year due to his contributions to the profession locally and the clinical care of his patients.
